This week wasn’t packed with drama, but it had its own gentle rhythm – a bit of progress, a touch of chaos, and some good pastries in between. 😄
We were supposed to head to Siegburg over the weekend to continue packing and moving out of our old apartment… but the weather had other plans. The forecast said rain all weekend, and I know my husband. Driving in the rain drains all the joy out of our road trips – it’s silent, tense, and the traffic becomes a live stress test. So we postponed. Again. Oh well, I guess the Siegburg saga continues later. But guess what? It didn’t rain. At all!
Work this week felt productive – I managed to cross off some major to-dos, especially working on children’s portfolios. There’s still more to tackle next week, but I’m slowly crossing things off. I also had my usual physiotherapy session, which is always a mix of relief and effort. EMS training, however, took a break since the studio is on summer holiday. That’ll resume next week.
On the side, something new and exciting: I’ve been working with an author on her first book! She reached out after reading some of my blogs and asked me to be her editor. I didn’t see that coming, but apparently my storytelling style spoke to her. So now I’m editing chapters and helping shape her voice into something powerful. It feels like teaching in a different form – and honestly, I might just have a knack for this. Let’s see where it goes!
Of course, Duolingo is still part of the picture – I’m hanging in there in the Diamond League (again), and my B2 German classes continue. I’m still learning, still showing up (even when I’m tired), and somehow still on a 270+ day streak. 😅
But Friday hit me hard.
Thursday night, I couldn’t sleep – I kept waking up from coughing and, worse, itchy skin all over. I’ve been dealing with this mysterious dry-skin–eczema–itching–allergy situation for months now. My skin doctor didn’t find anything serious, just gave me a no-cortisone routine with special creams and an allergy pill. When I was on sick leave, applying creams 3x a day was doable… but now, with work and life, I barely manage twice. I thought of shifting the pill to evenings – maybe that’ll help with the sleep.
Anyway, Friday came and I was completely drained. I called in sick and I stayed in bed all day, coughing and scratching and feeling overall useless. But bless my husband – he was the sweetest nurse. He took care of everything and brought me whatever I needed right to bed. I still felt guilty about not doing “something useful,” but I reminded myself: rest is recovery too. I did manage my daily Duolingo though, so there’s that!
By evening, I started feeling better. I showered, reset my brain a bit, and decided that if I felt okay in the morning, I’d head to Stuttgart for a little personal errand. My son, worried about me going alone, said he’d join me. 💚
So Saturday became a lovely surprise. We went to Stuttgart, did a bit of shopping, and found the exact thing I was looking for – plus some delicious Portuguese pastries (those alone made the trip worth it). Meanwhile, my husband did the laundry at home. Teamwork!
As for cleaning, I’m still on track.
Because we were in Siegburg the previous weekend, I had missed my regular rotation – so I made up for it last weekend. And this week? Saturday was technically cleaning day, but since we were in Stuttgart, I made up for it today (Sunday). I cleaned the living room and hallway – their turn on my cleaning schedule – and now everything’s back on track. Oh, and our cellar is finally ready to receive more boxes from Siegburg. Slowly but surely, we’re getting there.
So yes, not the most exciting week, but real life is like that sometimes – a mix of work, recovery, shopping, and small wins. I’m still keeping up with Duolingo (Diamond League – woo!), staying committed to my B2 German course, and doing what I can, when I can.
And next week, stay tuned – I’ll be featuring a very interesting story again. Some of you may even know the person behind it! It’s a story worth reading, I promise.
